Ubisoft has unveiled a comprehensive set of features coming to Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, confirming the return of beloved activities from the 2013 original alongside several exciting new additions. The announcements came during a recent Reddit AMA featuring creative director Paul Fu and game director Richard Knight.

Classic Activities Return in Full

Fans will be relieved to hear that all side activities from the original Black Flag have been preserved. Whale hunting, shark hunting, and the iconic bell diving mechanic will all be available in the remake. Bar games, including the popular Checkers minigame, are making a comeback exactly as players remember them. "All available," Fu confirmed when asked about these activities.

Naval Combat Gets an Upgrade

The elite Legendary Ships that defined Black Flag's challenging naval encounters are confirmed to return, with Knight promising they "are as brutal as ever to fight." A dedicated naval deep dive focusing on these vessels is scheduled for later in May. Additionally, Kenway's Fleet—the mobile management minigame from the original—has been fully integrated into Black Flag Resynced and can now be accessed through either the Hideout or Captain's Cabin, eliminating the need for a separate mobile device.

New Autopilot System for the Jackdaw

One of the most notable new features is the Pathfinder ability, essentially an autopilot function for Edward Kenway's ship. This builds on a mechanic the series has previously used for horseback travel, allowing players to sail toward objectives and waypoints without manual control. Knight clarified that players must remain at the wheel, as "you never know when an attack is coming," preventing wandering around the ship during autopilot navigation.

Online Events and Seasonal Content

Dynamic online events, including the appearance of white whales, are now built into the game's structure. Knight also revealed the presence of Anomalies—a form of online content previously seen in Assassin's Creed Shadows—expanding the game's multiplayer offerings beyond what the original provided.

Combat Overhaul and Hidden Blade Changes

Black Flag Resynced introduces a redesigned combat system centered around dual swords as Edward's primary weapons. The Hidden Blade has been transformed from a selectable weapon into a "fatal, contextual (and BLOODY!) takedown" that becomes available when players break an opponent's defense. This change makes the Hidden Blade takedown a critical component of moment-to-moment combat, significantly elevating its importance compared to the original game.

Additional Confirmed Features

The development team confirmed the return of social stealth mechanics, remappable controls, and the classic Wanted System where Pirate Hunters pursue players with high wanted levels. All original costumes will also make their return. After years of speculation and leaks, Black Flag Resynced is now just months away from launch.

Release Date and Editions

The remake is scheduled to launch on July 9 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. A $200 Collector's Edition will be available, featuring the same Edward Kenway statue that previously appeared on Vinted earlier this year.
