The US video game market continued its upward trajectory in April 2026, with consumer spending reaching $4.3 billion—a 3% increase compared to the same period last year. According to data released by Circana, the industry maintained the momentum generated in March, with several new releases making significant impacts on the sales charts.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Leads the Market
Nintendo's exclusive title Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream emerged as the undisputed champion of April, becoming both the best-selling game of the month and the ninth-best-selling title of 2026 so far. The Switch 2 exclusive generated over $41 million in sales across physical and digital versions in the United States.
The game's commercial performance was remarkable, with 3.8 million units sold in just the first two weeks following its release. This success contributed to a significant boost in physical software spending, which reached $96 million in April—representing a staggering 44% increase year-over-year.
Notable Releases Reshape the Charts
Capcom's highly anticipated Pragmata secured the second position in the monthly rankings. The title performed exceptionally well across multiple platforms, claiming the top spot on PlayStation 5, second place on PC via aggregated storefronts, and third on Xbox. It also entered the top 15 for Switch 2.
Crimson Desert maintained its strong presence, finishing in third place, while the early access launch of Windrose landed the game in fifth position. The franchise continued its remarkable run, driven in part by the success of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which propelled the classic Super Mario Galaxy titles on Switch up several positions to seventh place.
Starfield made a notable return to the charts at eighth place, benefiting from its PS5 launch alongside new content updates. Housemarque's Saros rounded out the top ten, debuting in ninth position despite launching on the very last day of April.
